\nby his lonely narrow life growing up
\nin a lower-middle burb of lawn & concrete
\nwith the usual father aspiring to rise
\nabove his class with a dodgy venture
\namong the fuzzy wuzzies that crashed,
\na service station where John helped
\nwith the bowser, his mum the usual tight mess
\nof caring, straight-laced protestant fear,
\nso John\u2019s passport up the ladder
\nwas to study law & join the Libs
\nwhere ANZUS-NIP was holy writ,<\/p>\n
\nheaded out leading the donkeys
\nfor their daily search for kindling
\nworth two or three bucks in the village bazaar<\/p>\n
\nKevin Rudd\u2019s heart was hardened & angered
\nby the early loss of his share-farm father & farm
\nevicted into sleeping in a car & farmed out
\nto the rels he was gonna show mum
\n& get back at the bastards,
\nso Kev\u2019s passport up the ladder
\nwas to read a lot, become devout,
\nlearn Mandarin & join the ALP machine
\nwhere ANZUS-NIP was holy writ,<\/p>\n
\nknew they had to be back to help out
\ntheir recently widowed mother milk
\neleven sheep for the cheese & yoghurt they sold<\/p>\n
\nJulia Gillard\u2019s heart was hardened by her need

\nto over-assimilate into brick and tile Adelaide suburbia
